The post mentions some of the moves this enemy will have including summoning Skeletons, bone walls and it will smash the ground with its staff creating bone shards that will shower down. The Skeleton Lord is just as imaginative made up of “fused skeleton and body parts”. Diablo IV continues its very dark fantasy theme, complete with enemies with lots of gory details. The Blood Bishop looks incredibly gory from the preview images and video clip featuring a skinless-looking enemy, not too dissimilar to Lilith’s overall look. The Rogue trailer which was previously announced at Blizzconline was created entirely with the in-game engine. Mueller explains that cinematics will features characters up close, and story cutscenes will be rendered with their engine using the game models. The post also previewed some of the well-known Diablo enemies such as the Succubus, as well as some new enemies the Blood Bishop and a reimagined Skeleton Lord. It was a huge investment to get this level of fidelity across the board with hundreds and pieces of armor and gear and body types and characters for five classes, and to have those all kind of feel like they’re of the same quality. Characters also have lots of customisation when it comes to armor colour palettes, as well there being two body types for each armor set. Art Director John Mueller explains in the post that characters in Diablo IV are made to look “as artistic and as hand-crafted as possible”. From the sounds of it, Diablo 4 will have some very highly detailed visuals and it was not something that was achieved without some investment. The post details the improvements being made to skin, cloth simulation, hair, fur, metal plus highlights for eyes and even perspiration. They also shared hair and skin customisations from the alpha build. In the quarterly update from Blizzard on Diablo 4, the developer has released new images featuring models for a few classes including Rogue, Barbarian and Sorceress.
